Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
StillHere helps you check in once a day so the people you trust know you're OK. To do that job we need a small amount of personal information. This policy explains — in plain English — what we collect, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We are a Canadian service and we follow Canada's federal privacy law, PIPEDA (the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act), for all of our users, including those in the United States.
What we collect
- Your phone number and name. Your phone number is how you sign in (we send a one-time code — no passwords), and how we reach you by SMS or phone call if you miss a check-in. Your name is shown to your emergency contacts so they know who the alert is about.
- Your check-in times. The schedule you set, and a record of each time you tap “I'm OK” (or reply by SMS / phone call). This is the core of the service.
- Optional mood notes. If you choose to add a short note with a check-in, we store it. This is entirely optional.
- Optional location — only with your consent. Location sharing is off by default. If you turn it on, we capture your last known location so it can be included when your emergency contacts are alerted. We never track your location continuously and never use it for advertising.
- Emergency contact details you provide. The names, phone numbers, and (optionally) email addresses of the people you want alerted. Please only add people who have agreed to be your emergency contact.
- Waitlist email. If you join the waitlist on this website, we store your email address so we can tell you when the app launches.
Why we collect it
- To remind you to check in and record that you did.
- To escalate when a check-in is missed — push notification, SMS, automated phone call, and finally alerts to your emergency contacts.
- To show your status to the family members or contacts you have chosen (for example, on the guardian dashboard or a private status link).
- To provide support and keep the service secure.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Who can see your information
- The people you choose. Your emergency contacts and family guardians see your name, check-in status, last check-in time, and — only if you opted in — your last known location when an alert goes out.
- Service providers who help us run StillHere. We use trusted providers for our database and hosting (Supabase), SMS and voice calls (Twilio), and email (Resend). They process your information only on our instructions to deliver the service. Some providers store data in the United States.
- No one else, unless the law requires it (for example, a valid court order) or you ask us to share it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information and check-in history while your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal information is deleted from our active systems within 30 days, and from backups within 90 days. Waitlist emails are deleted once the launch announcement has been sent, or sooner if you ask.
Your rights: access, export, and deletion
You stay in control, right from the app — no forms, no waiting on hold:
- Export. Download a copy of your data (profile, check-in history, contacts) from the app's settings at any time.
- Deletion. Delete your account and all associated data from the app's settings at any time.
- Correction. Update your name, contacts, schedule, and preferences in the app whenever you like.
You can also contact us (below) to exercise any of these rights, ask what we hold about you, or withdraw a consent you previously gave.
SMS and phone-call consent
By creating an account with your phone number, you consent to receive service messages from StillHere: sign-in codes, check-in reminders, and escalation SMS and automated phone calls. These are safety messages, not marketing. Message and data rates may apply. When you add an emergency contact, you confirm that they have agreed to receive alert messages about you; each contact can opt out of alerts at any time by replying STOP.
Children
StillHere is intended for adults. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we will notify you in the app or by SMS/email before they take effect, and update the date at the top of this page.
